Analysis of Exsiting Contents Pages- NME
The NME contents page is split into seven sections: “band index”; “news”; “radar”; “reviews”; “live”; “features”; and “plus”. The contents page only contains four colours: predominantly the traditional red, black and white that NME is known for, but it also contains yellow to attract attention to a promotional offer. The subheadings are written in white text to stand out from the black oblong that surrounds it. The titles of the articles are written in bold, black text, with a small, one line summary of the article bellow it.
There is one image on the page that only people interested in music would recognise. This shows that NME knows its target audience will understand the significance of the image, and are flattering their audience. In bottom right hand corner of the page is a large arrow in bright red, directing the reader to the “UK’s No.1 Gig Guide”. This shows that NME understands its audience will be very interested in music gigs, and may flick straight to gig guide. This article combines well with the image of the “world’s greatest music venue”, giving the page coherence.
Most notably the NME contents page also contains a list of bands featured in the magazine and what page they are mentioned on. This shows that they know there audience may be interested in one specific band, rather than the music industry as a whole, so they have a provided an easy way for readers to access the information they want.
